Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Director of Operations is responsible for streamlining the organization to maximize capacity at the lowest possible cost while delivering consistently high service levels to our distribution centers.

Responsibilities

Leadership of planning and execution team.

  • Develop, implement and manage an efficient and effective freight planning/execution process which ensures consistency across divisions and carriers, while reducing transportation costs.
  • Develop comprehensive KPI’s to align operations performance and activities with defined service and annual operating plan targets.
  • Develop methodology and analytics to measure efficiency of planning and execution functions. Use analytics to drive efficiency and improvement in operations
  • Partner with IT to own TMS recommendations, develop systems capabilities and processes to maximize systems usage to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Direct load planning activities, maximizing equipment efficiency and utilization, while reducing expenditure through careful planning and analysis. Drive continuous improvement in the planning and execution function by using established KPI’s.
  • Direct efforts to establish delivery time lines with vendors and carriers, in alignment with the expectations of company distribution centers.

 

Leadership of lane RFP process focused on defining and procuring carrier services for the supply chain network.

  • Develop and incorporate operations guidelines into the RFP process designed to meet network service requirements.
  • Prepare of the RFP documents and selection process.
  • Solicit of eligible carriers to participate in the RFP process.
  • Execution of the RFP process.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with current carriers while proactively pursuing new carrier partners to ensure that changing business needs are met.
  • Ensure carrier on-boarding process supports an effective implementation of the business change.

  

Develop and implement plans to address current and future capacity needs for the inbound network.

  • Forecast transportation needs to identify and prioritize constrained capacity lanes to be addressed.
  • Solicit and invite carriers, logistics operations and other third parties to collaborative capacity solutions.
  • Manage the analytical and evaluation effort.
  • Invite and receive effective feedback to insure the involvement of stakeholders in capacity solutions.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and assess trends in external partner performance and recommend/ drive correction action.
  • Interface with external partner point person for performance and/or contract compliance.
  • Develop reporting communications to internal customers and communicate program status.
  • Conduct opportunity assessments with field personnel to identify improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent years of experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in transportation, logistics, purchasing, operations or similiar in a large, multi-state environment.
  • Minimum 5 years prior experience with leadership required. 
  • Must have prior experience in managing budgets and other relevant financial metrics.
  • Prior experience in strategic project management and vendor negotiations required.
  • Experience in 3rd party customer freight development with the utilization of a private fleet for reduction of empty miles a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience running a high-volume transaction processing or transportation operation within a TMS system with multiple divisions.
  • Knowledge of foodservice distribution highly preferred.  
  • High degree of analytical proficiency.
  • Must be highly adaptive, able to function effectively within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word required. Knowledge of Microsoft Access preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and drug test.
